What is Data Mining..?

Data mining (the analysis step of the "Knowledge Discovery in Databases" process. The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure for further use.
The actual data mining task is the automatic or semi-automatic analysis of large quantities of data to extract previously unknown, interesting patterns such as groups of data records, unusual records and dependencies. The Knowledge Discovery in Databases (KDD) process is commonly defined with the stages:
(1) Selection
(2) Pre-processing
(3) Transformation
(4) Data Mining
(5) Interpretation/Evaluation.
To know more…….

Data mining involves six common classes of tasks:

Anomaly detection (Outlier/change/deviation detection) – The identification of unusual data records, that might be interesting or data errors that require further investigation.

Association rule learning (Dependency modelling) – Searches for relationships between variables. For example, a supermarket might gather data on customer purchasing habits. Using association rule learning, the supermarket can determine which products are frequently bought together and use this information for marketing purposes. This is sometimes referred to as market basket analysis.

Clustering – is the task of discovering groups and structures in the data that are in some way or another "similar", without using known structures in the data.

Classification – is the task of generalizing known structure to apply to new data. For example, an e-mail program might attempt to classify an e-mail as "legitimate" or as "spam".

Regression – attempts to find a function which models the data with the least error.

Summarization – providing a more compact representation of the data set, including visualization and report generation.

Application Areas….

Games

They are used to store human strategies into databases and based on that new tactics are designed by Computer ( in association with Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence)

Business

Businesses employing data mining may see a return on investment. In situations where a large number of models need to be maintained, some businesses turn to more automated data mining methodologies. In business, data mining is the analysis of historical business activities, stored as static data in data warehouse databases. The goal is to reveal hidden patterns and trends. Data mining software uses advanced pattern recognition algorithms to sift through large amounts of data to assist in discovering previously unknown strategic business information. Examples of what businesses use data mining for include performing market analysis to identify new product bundles, finding the root cause of manufacturing problems, to prevent customer attrition and acquire new customers, cross-selling to existing customers, and profiling customers with more accuracy.

Science and engineering

In recent years, data mining has been used widely in the areas of science and engineering, such as bioinformatics, genetics, medicine, education and electrical power engineering.

Human rights

Data mining of government records – especially records of the justice system (i.e., courts, prisons) – empowers the revelation of systemic human rights infringement in association with era and publication of invalid or deceitful lawful records by different government organizations

Medical data mining

Some machine learning algorithms can be applied in medical field as second-opinion diagnostic tools and as tools for the knowledge extraction phase in the process of knowledge discovery in databases.

Spatial data mining

Spatial data mining is the application of data mining methods to spatial data. The end objective of spatial data mining is to find patterns in data with respect to geography. So far, data mining and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) have existed as two separate technologies, each with its own methods, traditions, and approaches to visualization and data analysis. Data mining offers great potential benefits for GIS-based applied decision-making.

Temporal data mining

Data may contain attributes generated and recorded at different times. In this case finding meaningful relationships in the data may require considering the temporal order of the attributes.

Sensor data mining

By measuring the spatial correlation between data sampled by different sensors, a wide class of specialized algorithms can be developed to develop more efficient spatial data mining algorithms.

Visual data mining

During the time spent transforming from analogical into computerized, vast datasets have been created, gathered, and stored finding measurable patterns, trends and information which is covered up in real data, with a specific end goal to manufacture prescient formations(patterns).

A Glimpse into the 3-D brain | #IJSRD

People who wish to know how memory works are forced to take a glimpse into the brain. They can now do so without bloodshed: Ruhr Univ. Bochum (RUB) researchers have developed a new method for creating 3-D models of memory-relevant brain structures. They published their results in the trade journal Frontiers in Neuroanatomy.
3-D image of the hippocampus of a rat. Image
Lets Research !!! DO IT >>>> IJSRD
Seahorse gave the hippocampus the name
The way neurons are interconnected in the brain is very complicated. This holds especially true for the cells of the hippocampus. It is one of the oldest brain regions and its form resembles a seahorse (hippocampus in Latin). The hippocampus enables us to navigate space securely and to form personal memories. So far, the anatomic knowledge of the networks inside the hippocampus and its connection to the rest of the brain has left scientists guessing which information arrived where and when.
Signals spread through the brain
Accordingly, Dr. Martin Pyka and his colleagues from the Mercator Research Group at RUB have developed a method which facilitates the reconstruction of the brain's anatomic data as a 3-D model on the computer. This approach is quite unique, because it enables automatic calculation of the neural interconnection on the basis of their position inside the space and their projection directions. Biologically feasible network structures can thus be generated more easily than it used to be the case with the method available to date. Deploying 3-D models, the researchers use this technique to monitor the way neural signals spread throughout the network time-wise. They have, for example, found evidence that the hippocampus’ form and size could explain why neurons in those networks fire in certain frequencies.
Information become memories
In future, this method may help us understand how animals, for example, combine various information to form memories within the hippocampus, in order to memorise food sources or dangers and to remember them in certain situations.

A Review on Design & Analysis Of C-Frame of Pneumatic Power Press Using FEA

Abstract :
Presses are used in industries for a wide variety of uses including blanking, piercing and pressing. There are many different types of presses. The most popular are pneumatic presses and hydraulic presses. Pneumatic presses are 10 times faster than hydraulic presses and they can perform many jobs faster and more efficiently. Metal forming is one of the manufacturing processes which are almost chip less. These operations are mainly carried out by the help of presses and press tools. These operations include deformation of metal work pieces to the desired size by applying pressure or force. Press machine always works under impact load condition. Because of continuous impact the load, frame of press machine always experience continuous tensile stress.

#ijsrd What is an electronic journal ?

What is an electronic journal?

An electronic journal is a periodical publication which is published in electronic format, usually on the Internet.
Electronic journals have several advantages over traditional printed journals:
  1. You can search the contents pages and/or the full text of journals to find articles on a certain subject.
  2. You can read journal articles on your desktop, you don't have to be in the Library.
  3. You can e-mail articles to yourself or download them for printing.
  4. The article that you want to read will always be available, even when the Library is closed.
  5. Hypertext links allow you to move to different sections within individual journals or articles and can link you to related resources on the Internet.
  6. Journals can include more images and audio-visual material.
  7. Journals can be interactive - you can e-mail the author or editor with your comments.
Many electronic journals which are available are electronic versions of journals which exist in print. For example, if you wanted to see the journal called "Man" this journal is available physically on Level F in the Library, but is also available to SOAS users in electronic format.
Some journals are only available in electronic format and although some of these journals are of a high "academic" quality, please be aware that not all of them have gone through the same process of academic peer review as traditional print journals.

When Big Data Is Watching You

Is the answer to our feeble human minds needing to grapple with increasing quantities of big data to stand in a purpose built room immersed in complex data visualisations while wearing an array of sensors that track our physiological reactions? A group of European Commission-backed scientists believe so.
They’re attempting to quantify — and, they claim, enhance — cognition by building a sensor-based data visualisation system that dynamically changes the complexity level of the data on display in response to human triggers, such as gestures, eye movements and heart rate.
The basic concept underpinning this research, which has attracted €6.5 million in European Union funding under the Future and Emerging Technologies Scheme, is that a data display system can be more effective if it is sensitive to the human interacting with it, enabling it to modify what’s on display based on tracking and reacting to human stress signifiers.
The project is called CEEDS — aka Collective Experience of Empathetic Data Systems — and involves a...

CFD Simulation of Compact Type Mini Channel Heat Exchanger by Using of Water

Abstract—A heat exchanger is a device that is used to transfer thermal energy (enthalpy) between two or more fluids, between a solid surface and a fluid, or between solid particulates and a fluid, at different temperatures and in thermal contact. In the conventional heat exchangers, pipes are larger in size which makes heat exchanger bulky. But in some typical applications such as closed loop gas turbine heat exchangers, cryogenic applications, heat exchangers used in PWR power plants, nuclear submarines, etc., size and weight are critical design constraints on the heat exchanger. Also for high pressure applications tubes are subjected to high bending stresses. To overcome these difficulties, compact heat exchangers can be employed. Mini channels heat exchanger is a type of compact heat exchanger in which mini channels are machined on metal plates and then such plates are bonded together. Such an arrangement provides high strength so that it can be used for high pressure applications. It has been observed that in mini channels, convective heat transfer coefficient is more than the tubes used in conventional heat exchangers. Hence, the length for same heat transfer is greatly reduced which results in reduced overall size and weight of the heat exchanger. Electronic device are in heavy demand for computer processor applications and generate large amount of heat. These high power device can be cooled off very effectively by either liquid or gas coolant flowing through micro or mini channels. Continuous research work is ongoing for developing high speed processor which generate high amount of heat. Cooling of such particular systems requires high amount of mass flow rate and compactness is also required. In present work, a mini channel heat exchanger is designed with assuming inlet and outlet of hot temperature, inlet of cold water temperature and also the mass flow rates of cold and hot water. This compact heat exchanger can be used for cooling purpose of electronics device like silicon chip which would be used for microprocessor. In order to cool down silicon chip, it is kept in place of hot fluid plate. Cooling of silicon chip is required to prevent from damage and subsequently failure. The heat exchanger is designed for obtaining 10°C of hot fluid.

Optimization of Machining Parameters in CNC Turning Using Firefly Algorithm

Abstract— now a day’s machining is done through various automated machines. One of the widely used machines is CNC. Even though the automated machines are used, the quality of the work is determined by parameters used. The cutting parameters of the CNC machine determine the productivity, surface finish, machining time and other qualities of the product. This study involves the optimization of those cutting parameters. In order to get optimized CNC parameters for a specific tool-work combination, Firefly Algorithm (FA) is used to compute the best parameters based on the experiments conducted on a CNC Turning center. The three cutting parameters are cutting speed (V), feed (f), and depth of cut (d). The practical constraints have been considered during both practical and experimental approaches.  The result reveals that FA is very well suited in solving parameters selection problems.

Area-Efficient VLSI Implementation for Parallel Linear-Phase FIR Digital Filters

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To design an efficient integrated circuit in terms of Area, Power and speed is one of the challenging task in modern VLSI design field. In the past decade numbers of research have been carried out to optimize design based on area, speed and power utilization. In this paper performance analysis of different available adder architectures has been carried out and then we proposed a Heterogeneous architecture, which composed of four different sub adders to design an adder unit in order to demonstrate trade-offs between performance parameters i.e. Area, Power and speed. In proposed approach the symmetric coefficients of FIR filter area taken into consideration to implement parallel (L=3) FIR filter.
